MAKATI CITY – On a sunny yet relatively windy Saturday afternoon, the adobo Cup 2016 was up for grabs as teams of football enthusiasts from advertising, media, and production houses showed off their love for “the beautiful game.” A record 19 teams came dressed in their respective football kits of many colors to engage in a sport loved the world over at the Blue Pitch in Circuit Makati.

The opening kickoff saw a moment of silence in honor of the passing of former heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali, followed by the teams returning to their individual tents that reflected their team colors.

As the one day tournament rolled on, it slowly became evident that none of the previous winners of the Dobo Trophy would dispute it this year.

At the end of the elimination round, BBDO Guerrero emerged as winners of the Pandikdik Award for a second consecutive year.

The adobo Platito went to Mediaquest after downing Quick Brown Fox FC.

In a highly competitive final match played under the floodlights of the Blue Pitch, the game between Go Motion and Vitamin B couldn’t be settled in regulation or even in extra time. After a slew of penalty kicks, perennial quarterfinalists Vitamin B earned the right to be called adobo Cup Champions for the first time. The bronze went to ABS-CBN FC while Go Motion Productions won the silver.

For a second straight year, Wunderman FC once again won the Best in Team Spirit award with their tireless cheering and enthusiasm.

Forza Havas, in their mostly black football kit with large gray “H” and red uniform numbers, won Best Uniform.

Even as Vitamin B basked in the glow of their newly won golden Dobo Trophy, team captain Bogey Bernardo credited his team’s perseverance and relentlessness as reasons why they won. He also challenged all comers who want to take the trophy from them to bring their best at the tenth adobo Cup because Vitamin B will gladly defend it next year.
