MANILA — YouTube™ officially opened the YouTube Pop-up Space Manila, part of its YouTube Pop-up Space program. Held for the second time this year in Manila, Pop-up Spaces is a YouTube initiative that supports creative communities around the world. It is also an investment in the development and growth of content creators in line with the mission of YouTube Spaces: learn, connect, and create. The YouTube Pop-up Space Manila operated from October 19-21 at Green Sun, Makati and allowed YouTube creators to learn about video production, collaborate with other creators, and give them the production tools they need to realize their creative goals.
YouTube Pop-up Space Manila brings in programs, classes, sets, and equipment that YouTube creators can use for free. There was a lounge area and multiple meeting rooms for creators to use as well. In four days, YouTube organize events, workshops, and networking opportunities in the Space’s auditorium and classrooms that were open to all YouTube creators locally.
The YouTube Space team previously opened Pop-up Spaces in cities like Bangkok, Jakarta, Seoul, Taipei, and Sydney. Permanent YouTube Spaces are presently open in Berlin, London, Los Angeles, Mumbai, New York, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Tokyo, and Toronto. Since the first YouTube Space opened in 2012, more than 150,000 creators have visited the Spaces globally, creating over 10,000 videos from their visits. Videos created at YouTube Spaces worldwide have amassed almost 2 billion views thus far.
Moe Inaki, YouTube Space Asia Pacific Senior Strategist said, “The YouTube Pop-up Space Manila is our latest effort to invest in the development of the Filipino creator community, which has grown considerably over the past year. By giving them access to all these trainings and opportunities, we hope to see more empowered creators growing their audiences, building their careers, and contributing more to the Philippines’ digital ecosystem.”
Bringing a physical pop-up presence in Manila extends more learning and collaboration opportunities for the Filipino YouTube creator community, which is one of the world’s most vibrant. In the past year alone, the amount of content uploaded to YouTube in the Philippines has grown by a staggering 150%, while watchtime on mobile in the Philippines has grown 65% year on year.
YouTube NextUp winners
YouTube Pop-up Space Manila’s participants included the winners of the first YouTube NextUp in the Philippines, launched in Manila last July. Since its 2011 debut, the NextUp program has sent more than 300 up-and-coming creators in 15 countries participate in creator camps, where they learned about production techniques from NextUp alumni and collaborated with other creators.
