Most brands only have seconds before the average user decides to hit ‘SkipAd’, and in an age of rapidly evolving audiences and algorithms, authentic and creative stories are those that hook viewers to lean in and not skip at all.
It takes more than a catchphrase to hold those attention spans. Now, brands and creatives must work together to create exceptional content to rise above the rest. YouTube, the biggest online video platform in the world, has changed the game for ads, and has now become the playspace for this new breed of content.
Once again, the search is on for the best Philippine storytelling in ads as YouTube Ads Awards returns for a bigger and bolder Year 2 this year. In collaboration with adobo magazine, theYouTube Ads Awards Year 2 Call for Entries is now officially open and invites storytellers, content creators and advertisers in the Philippines to submit their most powerful, creative and diverse stories.
Year 1 saw an exciting wave of memorable entries, with winning campaigns such as Jollibee’s Valentine special “Vow” by McCann Worldgroup Philippines; Unilab’s “Son”, an ad that depicted a mother-and-son relationship by Seven A.D.; and Globe’s “The Last Jedi”, a Star Wars-themed story about overcoming fears.
Ultimately, it was McDonalds Philippines’ “Wait Lang Po”, a heartwarming Father’s Day ad that emerged as Year 1’s Ad of the Year, taking home two Crystal awards, the top honors for Food and Beverage, and Storytelling for Occasions.
Year 2 is stepping up a notch, with YouTube on the lookout for exceptional ads that can exceed last year’s roster of winners, along with more exciting features in store. Expect more entries from the country’s biggest brands and top-tier agencies, and a star-studded jury panel composed of the most celebrated names in the local creative industry. Watch out as well for the YTAA main website to learn more about the program, and to look back at last season’s winning ads.
