PhilStar reveals digital newspaper app

THE PHILIPPINES, MAY 2, 2012: Readers of local broadsheet The Philippine Star can now view the newspaper on their mobile devices and desktops in full crisp color and high resolution.

Available on all iOS and Android devices, the digital edition can also be accessed through wwww.thephilippinestar.ph, which offers free access until June 30, 2012. Readers can cut and paste, search, share, and archive articles they find worth noting on their desktops and tablets.

As part of the newspaper’s interactive feature, e-mail addresses and websites in the articles can be tapped to direct you to the designated e-mail address or URL if you want to send a comment or inquire more about the topic.

Apart from the current issues, the archive of the whole newspaper since its first issue in 1986 will also be available by July 2012.

“Digital is the wave of the future; going digital is a must for any publication for long-term survival," said Philippine Star editor-in-chief Ana Marie Pamintuan.

Along with the digital edition, PhilStar will also be making significant changes in the daily newspaper. “We are also adjusting the layout and presentation of news in the printed edition. There will be some merging of news coverage and presentation. There is still a large segment of the population that likes to get the news in the traditional platform, but newspapers have to be dynamic,” Pamintuan said.
