Johnson & Johnson Philippines named one of the best companies to work for in Asia

MANILA – Johnson & Johnson Philippines was recognized as one of the “Best Companies to Work for in Asia” last June 29 at the 2018 HR Asia Awards. Hosted by the region’s most authoritative publication for HR Professionals, HR Asia has included J&J’s Philippine office in its first-ever batch of companies in the country for the prestigious award.

Designed in collaboration with experts from academic institutions, consultancy firms, and independent practitioners, the HR Asia Awards recognize outstanding employer practices among companies across the region.

“At Johnson & Johnson, we believe in winning with PEOPLE,” said Sean Zantua, HR Director J&J Philippines and Global Services Asia Pacific. “Guided by Our Credo, we continue to ensure a healthy working environment through our on-campus facilities, extensive healthcare benefits, and flexible work arrangements, that we hope to foster better productivity across the board.”

The award followed a rigorous screening process administered by HR Asia. First of which was a survey that assessed employee engagement, workplace culture, and career development opportunities. This was followed by an employer survey that took into account turnover rates, growth rates, and workplace accident rates. Lastly was the onsite visit to the local J&J office, in which HR Asia validated the results from the surveys.

Johnson & Johnson has gone a long way from establishing its Philippine operations in 1956 to launching its Global Services office in 2009. All housed in the same campus, Johnson & Johnson Consumer, Medical Devices, Janssen Pharmaceutical, and Global Services employ over 900 individuals.

According to the company’s HR Department, the company’s employee growth is expected to continue over the next few years, with the population projected to reach over 1200 employees by 2020.

As a healthcare company, Johnson & Johnson aims to be the healthiest workforce in the world. The company provides employees healthier food options, 24-hour access to an onsite fitness center, walking and jogging trails throughout the campus, 1:1 personal best coaching, and digital health tools, among a number of health and wellness-related benefits.

In addition, Johnson & Johnson strives to deliver employee value by creating a Total Rewards and Performance program that attracts, develops, and retains talents who drive results for patients, customers, and shareholders. Apart from the flexible work arrangements, educational assistance, and extended healthcare coverage, employees also benefit from the recently enhanced Global Parental Leave (GPL) program, which allows both the mother and father to spend more time with their newborn. Mothers get as much as 14 weeks of paid leave and fathers get as much as 8 weeks of paid leave, allowing the mother to recover while the father bonds with the newborn.

In line with the Credo, Johnson & Johnson participates in sustainable corporate social responsibility programs. In fact, over 90% of its employees join company-sponsored community events last year. The company also reaches out to NGOs, encouraging them to submit proposals for fund granting. The latest grant supports “Ligtas Mommy, Ligtas Baby,” a program to educate midwives on new methods of Essential Intrapartum Newborn Care.
