MAKATI – Frederick Alegre, VP of Business Mirror, past United Print Media Group (UPMG) President and past Adboard Chair, has served in the media for 30 years and will now serve the government as Assistant Secretary to the Department of Tourism (DOT).
Ricky Alegre, who had been serving as board director at the UPMG, said during the organization’s General Membership Meeting (GMM) that he will relinquish his board seat to serve the government.
“After 30 years in media this July, I can dedicate my time to my country, also in media, as Assistant Secretary for Media and Spokesman (for the DOT).”
When asked about his family in which he has nine children, he shared that his family in the past did not want him to go into government but now has given him support. He shares that when his wife Cathy first got wind of the report that he may be considered for a government position, she said, “Yes, that needs a lot of weighing. I know you have made sacrifices for your political aspirations because you’ve put us first, so if this is what you want, we will back and leave the rest to God.”
