BANGKOK, THAILAND – Under the vision to be a leader in promoting Thailand as a sustainable and preferred destination for tourism, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) aims to spread awareness on what makes the country great.

Under the new direction of Patsalin Swetarat, TAT is keen to put Thailand in the minds of Filipino travelers as one of the top countries to visit this 2020. What makes it a great country to visit is it offers a variety of activities and scenic spots for people to enjoy and experience Thai culture. They want everyone to know that there is something for different people like backpackers, jetsetters, couples, and adventure-lovers that they can do and explore.

With her experience in the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Patsalin has witnessed the highs and lows of Thai tourism, and she was proud to share that TAT was able to achieve its target of 16% increase of Filipino visitors to Thailand. “Around half a million tourists explored the beauty of Thailand in 2019, and in spite of current global issues, TAT is still hoping to increase this number by 10 percent in 2020,” Patsalin mused. “With the continued support and collaboration with our trade partners from airlines, travel agencies, tour operators and local government units, we are able to make sure that we can satisfy every Filipino traveler’s needs,” she added.

Aside from the bustling city of Bangkok, the country’s capital, Thailand has many equally exciting destinations. These include Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai located at the northern mountainous part of the country. These cities are home to elaborate Buddhist temples and beautifully landscaped botanical gardens to the awe of tourists. The Historical city of Ayutthaya, the old capital of Thailand which is 85kms north of Bangkok is now an archeological ruin. This is a UNESCO World Heritage city worth seeing, an item on the bucket list for a lot of Filipino travelers.

Another popular destination in Thailand that Filipinos equally enjoy is Phuket, which is located at the south-west coast of Thailand. Beach lovers can explore the nearby islands and other must-see cultural attractions. There’s also Pattaya, which is a mere hour and a half drive from Bangkok. This city offers endless possibilities in entertainment and family-oriented attractions.

With its rich culture, unforgettable beaches, and hospitable people, Thailand is truly an awesome travel destination for Filipinos. “We at the Tourism Authority of Thailand look forward to welcoming more of our Filipino brothers and sisters to experience our home that is Thailand,” Patsalin said.
