World-renowned entertainment design artists gather in ICON Manila 2017

MANILA — Once again, ICON Manila gathers powerhouse list of animators and designers for the 4th International Entertainment Conference on June 30 to July 1st 2017 to be held in De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde.

The ICON Manila Entertainment Design Conference caters to all who excel in the fields of animation, film, games, illustration, fine arts, and other forms of visual design.

For 2017, ICON will feature five outstanding speakers who have decades of proven design experience, furthering Southeast Asia’s impact on the global entertainment design industry.

It will be headlined by Annie Award winner, Tony Bancroft, known for his work in Disney’s Mulan, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, The Emperor’s New Groove and the new independent animated feature film, Animal Crackers, coming out this fall.

TONY BANCROFT

Tony Bancroft is one of the most prominent supervising animators in the animation industry and co-director of Disney’s Brother Bear.

With over 29 years in the industry, Tony loves animation. As a Disney animator, he helped create Cogsworth in Beauty and the Beast, Iago in Aladdin, Pumbaa in The Lion King, and Kronk in The Emperor’s New Groove. He won an Annie Award for co-directing Disney’s Mulan. He also supervised animation on Stuart Little 2 for Sony Pictures. Now independent, Tony is currently directing the animated feature film, Animal Crackers, for release later this year. And to top it all off, he literally wrote the book on animation directing entitled, Directing For Animation and co-hosts a popular podcast with his twin brother, Tom, titled The Bancroft Brothers Animation Podcast. In his spare time, Tony enjoys making balloon animals out of bubble gum.

GORO FUJITA

Goro is an Art Director, illustrator and visual development artist based in the Bay Area, California. After graduating The German Film School for Digital Production” near Berlin in 2005 majoring in 3D animation, he started working as a freelance character animator and visual development artist for various companies in Germany. In 2008 he joined DreamWorks Animation as a visual development artist and worked on Merry Madagascar, Megamind, and The Boss Baby to name a few. Goro has illustrated numerous book covers, published children’s books and mobile games. He is currently an Art Director at Oculus Story Studio where he art directed the Emmy award-winning VR experience “Henry”. Using innovative software such as the VR painting tool “Quill” by Oculus Story Studio and “Medium”. He is truly a pioneer in the VR field.

EVEN AMUNDSEN

“I come from a land to the north, with epic landscapes, old sagas and a tradition of exploration. A land of trolls and Vikings, of kings and… well, more Vikings. I have had experience working in most of the relevant disciplines of the field, though my personal love lies with character art and larger illustration work, both of them being vehicles that create and tell stories. The key strengths I have, lie in a good understanding of anatomy, craftsmanship, designs, and composition.”

JANA SCHIRMER

Jana is a self-taught concept artist/illustrator born in Cologne, Germany. She currently lives in Irvine, California. Her clients include Applibot, Bioware, Karakter/Guerilla Games, WB Games, Massive Black, Sony, Marvel Comics, Riot Games, Wizards of the Coast and much more.

ARMAND SERRANO

Armand Serrano is a Filipino-American visual development artist known for his works at Walt Disney Animation Studios and Sony Pictures Animation. He has been in the industry for more than 2 decades. He started at Hanna Barbera Production in 1990 then supervised layout for Marvel TV three years later. Armand joined Disney in 1997 and worked on Mulan, Tarzan, Brother Bear, and Lilo & Stitch. In 2004, he joined Sony and got involved with Surf’s Up, Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs, and Hotel Transylvania. In 2013, Armand joined Disney the second time around. His latest film credits include Big Hero 6 and Zootopia. Armand is an accomplished lecturer in animation design. He published his first art book, Vignettes, in 2016. His new book, Inked, will be out this June, 2017. He is also an adjunct professor at Biola University in La Mirada, California.
