MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Technological innovations can play a key role in sustainability efforts. Innovations such as electric vehicles, renewable sources of energy, and manufacturing processes that minimize waste and pollution continue to contribute to a better and more sustainable future for all. Locally, the Philippines has committed to achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations (UN).

HP is one of the tech leaders advancing sustainable impact globally and in the Philippines. Recently, the tech company shared its HP Climate Action Goals and its milestone publication of the annual Sustainable Impact Report. HP continuously drive initiatives toward a net zero carbon and fully regenerative economy with its tech expertise through World-First sustainable innovations and by leveraging talent and platform to do the most good.

“Partners and end-users are looking for multiple benefits when buying a new device or product. Purchase decisions have become more than just a choice of the best features and pricing, but of personal security, human rights and environmental concern,” said Christian Edmond Reyes, Philippines Managing Director, HP Inc. “For HP, this has always been our purpose—to deliver technology that can both grow businesses and serve humanity.”

HP is moving to a more circular, low-carbon future throughout its material sourcing, product design, service-based delivery, and recycling programs. Its closed-loop recycling initiative is a decades-long program that has upcycled 875 million HP cartridges, 114 million apparel hangers, and 4.69 billion post-consumer plastic bottles into new HP products.

From this program, HP has developed the HP Elite Dragonfly and the HP ZBook Studio, the world’s first notebook and mobile workstation made from ocean-bound plastics. Meanwhile, 82% of its Original HP ink cartridges contain between 4-75% post-consumer plastic content, while 100% of its Original HP ink toners has 1-75% post-consumer or post-industrial recycled plastic content.

Providing opportunities that are inclusive and accessible to all

Beyond the planet, HP has also outlined goals for its people and the communities it works with. The company has committed to tackling human rights for all and a growing digital divide, considering that these are some of the most challenging issues of our time.

HP has created a culture of inclusion and equity within and outside the workplace, believing that it can improve products, services, and the company. This has resulted in important strides in inclusion: women make up 57% of HP’s global workforce, and 32% are in leadership roles.

This commitment to diversity has been recognized. HP has been named as a Circle of Excellence Awardee for “Diversity Company of the Year” at the 11th Asia CEO Awards (ACA), and ranked 17th in Forbes’ annual list of the World’s Best Employers for 2020.

The company has also launched programs to bridge the gap in education such as the HP LIFE, a free, skill-training program for entrepreneurs, business owners, and lifelong learners all over the world. They also conducted a local donation drive of over 400 units of HP Neverstop Laser printers to non-governmental organizations (NGOs), reaching thousands of students and teachers across the nation who are adapting to remote learning.

Securing sustainable growth for Filipinos

On top of the challenging issues of our time, HP recognizes that the current landscape of remote work exposes businesses to a lot of data breaches, including malware and phishing. As a reliable tech partner for many years, HP provides complete security solutions for both its PC and print devices to protect important data as Filipinos work and learn from home.

Effectively adapting to the new ways of working and growing sustainably into the new normal has become a security decision that involves upgrading productivity tools with essential security solutions. With HP Pavilion x360, HP Spectre x360, and our line-up of reliable business laptops, Elitebook and ProBook series, you get multiple layers of security throughout a system: HP Sure View guards sensitive information visible on the screen by making it difficult for onlookers to see from the sides. Meanwhile, Webcam Kill-Switch prevents hackers from accessing the front-facing camera.

Through Sure Click, HP secures PCs from malware lurking on malicious websites. This technology opens untrusted websites and files in their own isolated “virtual containers,” trapping malware there if a malicious code is detected. Moreover, Sure Run helps keep critical processes running, even if malware is trying to shut them down. Another layer of protection is Sure Start, which automatically detects, stops, and recovers from an attack or corruption, with little to no interruption.

HP also makes printing more convenient with Roam for Business. This makes it easier to print on the go from a mobile device and retrieve the output at any HP Roam-enabled printer within the network. Secure Print stores data until authentication at the device and print job release.

As the world enters a new era of innovation, HP constantly reinvents solutions while accelerating the need for active cyber defense, smarter infrastructure, and more personalized experiences. All these, as it strives to become the most sustainable and just IT company by 2030.
