Solar Entertainment adds another high-caliber channel to its Philippine roster with Sci Fi. A top global brand of NBC Universal, the channel was officially launched to advertisers last week at A-Venue. Cleverly timed to ride the post-Star Trek science-fiction wave, the launch was a glittery event complete with an enchanted forest, stiltwalkers, costumed hobbits and alien babes.
Making a surprise appearance was Solar Entertainment owner Wilson Tieng. Voice shaking, the rarely-seen businessman was on the edge of tears as he thanked advertisers for standing by Solar in their contract dispute with ABS-CBN over the Pacquiao-Hatton fight. Considering that the drama is now practically forgotten, Tieng’s intense emotion was a reminder that sometimes business still does remain very personal.
Handed out to representatives of advertisers and media agencies were US$1,000 cash, a Philippine cruise, and a trip for two to Universal Studios Singapore. Non-winners still had a reason to smile with their exclusive Sci Fi tumbler and USB bracelet freebies that they could enjoy while exploring the alternate reality beyond Sci Fi.
With shows like Sanctuary (a SciFi original), Dead Like Me, Smallville, Battlestar Galactica and Blade the Series, Sci Fi allows viewers to explore alternate realities 24/7. It airs on Destiny Cable channel 90 and Cable Link channel 50.
