GLOBAL – NEW YORK, NY, USA, OCTOBER 28, 2010 – New York Festivals 2011 International TV & Film Awards, now in its 54th year, has introduced a new category to honor exceptional work in Telenovelas—limited run prime time serialized dramas—in response to their global popularity as a leading international entertainment genre.
The new category is the brainchild of Rose Anderson, NYF’s TV & Film Executive Director. “For the first time in the history of New York Festivals TV & Film Awards, the spotlight will be on all of the telenovelas being created today,” said Anderson, a 25-year veteran of the broadcast industry, “Our competition is open to all productions worldwide – wherever they are created and wherever they are aired, they can enter. We want to be able to give outstanding work the recognition it deserves.”
“Telenovelas are Latin America’s greatest contribution to the television landscape, not to mention one of the most successful genres in the history of the medium. I congratulate the New York Festivals for taking this step to recognize this important and incredibly popular style of entertainment,” said Joaquin Blaya, Former President and CEO of Univision.
This year’s Telenovela category winners, along with “The World’s Best TV & Films,” will be showcased at NYF TV & Film Awards, hosted at the NAB Show in Las Vegas from April 9-14. The deadline to enter the competition has been extended to November 5th to provide opportunities for others in light of the recent NAB Show and NYF partnership.
