GLOBAL – UNITED STATES, MAY 6, 2013 – Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt addressed advertisers last week debunking the forecast that Youtube will soon displace television…simply because it already has.

The Google-owned video service has already passed the 1 billion mark of monthly unique visitors and, with the "third world" in mind, could even reach 6 or 7 billion.

But Schmidt maintains that Youtube isn’t merely a replacement of TV. "It’s participatory…that’s a profound change."

"TV means reach," added global head of content Robert Kyncl. "YouTube means engagement."

The event also saw the announcement of DreamWorks Animation’s £22million purchase of teen-focused YouTube network Awesomeness TV.
