Sound of Change launches to record street musicians

MOSCOW – Sound of Change is a new record label launched by digital agency Hungry Boys. It gives buskers (or street musicians) the opportunity to have their music recorded in a studio and have listeners the world over to help them make money beyond the streets.

By uploading a video of someone busking to the Sound of Change website, adding the musicians’ details, and geotagging their location, performers can be mapped and shared on social networks using the hashtag #soundofchange.

Hungry Boys will then look for producers and other partners to help facilitate an opportunity for the musicians to record in a nearby studio. The music will be released via a variety of download and streaming sites including iTunes, Spotify and Google Play, with all proceeds from the songs going back to the musicians.

Vlad Sitnikov, creative director, Hungry Boys, says: “There are so many amazing buskers out there that we wanted to help them record their music in a professional environment and share their sounds with a global audience – without major label input. Sound of Change allows them to do this and earn money on top of street performances. The platform also encourages young producers and directors with an interest in documentaries to showcase their talents.”

To launch the project, three buskers from Moscow, Madrid and Amsterdam have been taken to a studio in their cities to record a song.
