THE PHILIPPINES, AUGUST 8, 2011 – Fresh from its Effective Digital Publishing win at the recent Asian Publishing Awards at The Landmark Bangkok, adobo magazine bolsters its marketing and sales team with the appointment of Janelle Barretto-Squires as Chief Operating Officer and Vice President.
After a year-long search, Guerrero and Barretto-Squires met through a common friend who runs an executive search company. adobo’s editor-in-chief Angel Guerrero commented on the appointment, “With adobo magazine reaching its fifth successful year as the most respected and highly regarded advertising communications magazine in the country, I knew that it was about time I had a business partner to keep the momentum going and build the business in areas that need attention like community building, industry education/training and internal management. Someone I can bounce ideas to as well as share the vision I have for adobo magazine.”

Barretto-Squires started her career in the hotel industry when she joined Mandarin Oriental Manila as a student and was hired right after graduating with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Administration from the University of the Philippines – Diliman. After seven years in the sales team of the international hotel chain, Barretto-Squires dabbled in real estate and events organization.
She moved to Bangkok in 1999 after her husband was reassigned to the Thai capital. Over the next decade, she organized events trained at Gemological Institute of America. As an entrepreneur, Barretto-Squires has designed jewelry and ventured into trading of Christmas decor for retail and export. Returning to Manila with her family in 2009, she set up the international optical group Alliance Optics in the Philippines, handling marketing.
Barretto- Squires’ mandate at adobo is to identify new business potential and increase revenues for the magazine as it grows, particularly in the digital space. Joining Barretto-Squires in the sales team is another recent hire, Apple Manansala, who joins as Sales and Marketing
