MANILA, PHILIPPINES — The Saint Teresa of Calcutta Awards: Saints in the Dark Times (STCA: SIDT) Committee, together with partners, Junior Chamber International Manila (JCI Manila) and the Alfonso Yuchengco Foundation (AY Foundation), is in search for “silent heroes”, who have embodied Saint Teresa’s strong humanitarian values and have emulated her examples through their own works and accomplishments. The search was formally launched on Jan 21 2022.
The STCA was established in 1983 as an annual project of JCI Manila and the AY Foundation, Inc. The award is a recognition dedicated to Saint Teresa of Calcutta, whose remarkable humanitarian efforts have earned her a Nobel Peace Prize in 1979, and, most famous, the title of “The Living Saint” prior to her official canonization in 2016. It aims to recognize individuals who have dedicated a considerable fraction of their time, talents, and selves in service of the underserved, and, in doing so, become an inspiration to others.
Any living individual, regardless of background and ethnicity, may be nominated for the prestigious Saint Teresa of Calcutta Award considering that they have submitted the requirements.
The STCA: SIDT Committee is in search of people who have humbly, and without seeking gratification or recognition, have selflessly devoted at least twenty (25) years of their lives helping the less fortunate members of Philippine society. Above all, these individuals must be above reproach, of unquestionable integrity and a simple lifestyle much like the late Saint Teresa herself.
Nominators may be any individual, institution, or organization who would submit the designated form to the address specified below. The STCA: SIDT Committee shall then review the nominations for a preliminary screening where candidates will be judged based on their merits and qualifications with respect to the award’s requirements. The initial results will be forwarded to the Board of Judges who will name the two winners of this year’s Saint Teresa of Calcutta Award recipient, as well as the recipients of 2 million pesos (1 million per winner).
Nominations can be submitted from Feb 2 2022 until March 31, 2022, and can be submitted as a physical copy to the STCA: SIDT Committee office at the JCI Manila Clubhouse, Arquiza corner Grey Street, Ermita, Manila, Philippines, or via nomination form at bit.ly/STCA2022
About Saint Teresa of Calcutta Award
The Saint Teresa of Calcutta Award (STCA) is a recognition dedicated to the late St. Teresa of Calcutta, Nobel Peace Prize Winner in 1979 and known worldwide before her death in 1997 as the ‘Living Saint” because of her selfless humanitarian work and the ideals, which she embodied in her entire life.
The award search and selection is an annual project of the AY Foundation, Inc. and the Manila Jaycees since 1983. At present, the search committee is dedicated to seek for lay individuals who, like St. Teresa of Calcutta, have fully and selflessly dedicated at least 25 years of their lives to humanitarian work among “the poorest of the poor” and have served, and shall continue to serve, as an inspirational, living example to the world.
