ASIA-PACIFIC – KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA, OCTOBER 20, 2010 – BBDO/Proximity Malaysia launched Digital Lab, a world-class physical and online education and innovation initiative designed to prepare today’s brand marketers and business managers for the digital age.

The Digital Lab will serve as a vibrant space for clients and staff to engage in interactive sharing and learning sessions on best practice digital marketing. It will give BBDO/Proximity’s clients, staff and the larger public access to original whitepapers, case studies and insights on the ever-evolving digital world’s true drivers, models, opportunities and best practices.

“Just as we’ve always been able to leverage on the strength of our network for insights to grow our clients’ business, Digital Lab is able to provide world-class learnings, thanks to the Proximity network’s connections,” BBDO/Proximity Malaysia’s Group Chief Executive Jennifer Chan.

These relationships include the Google Global Partnership programme and the Wharton Interactive Media Initiative (WIMI), a leading digital media think tank and research programme based at the prestigious Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

“The Digital Lab is the first of its kind in Malaysia; making BBDO/Proximity Malaysia among early adopters of similar initiatives found in New York, the Philippines, Japan and Singapore,” said Chan.

“Digital Lab’s agenda is to promote digital thought leadership amongst our staff and clients, by giving them the right insights and tools to better integrate digital into their broader marketing plans and strategies,” Proximity Asia’s Regional Managing Director Richard Fraser said.

BBDO/Proximity Malaysia’s investment in Digital Lab is a timely recognition of the accelerating growth and emerging digital spaces in Malaysia. According to the Ministry of Information, Technology and Culture, Malaysia’s current broadband penetration is expected to rise from 31.4% to 50% of all households by year-end and Malaysia’s Internet penetration has risen above the 60% mark. Recent findings from Pyramid Research indicate that Malaysia’s mobile penetration rate is set to increase by a staggering 133% by 2014.
