CNN Philippines bags 8 awards at the KBP Golden Dove Awards

MANILA – CNN Philippines won 8 awards at the KBP’s (Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas) 25th Golden Dove Awards. The network was nominated in 13 categories.

CNN Philippines Chief Correspondent Pia Hontiveros received the Ka Doroy Broadcaster of the Year, a prestigious accolade given to the most exemplary broadcast professionals.

Newsroom (9 p.m.) won Best TV Newscast, hosted by Mitzi Borromeo, who also brought home the Best TV Newscaster award for the second year in a row.

For the second year in a row, CNN Philippines won the award for Best Culture and Arts Program but this year for Story of the Filipino. The documentary program features the inspiring stories of Filipinos from all walks of life.

Chosen for Best TV Magazine Program is Profiles, also hosted by Borromeo. Profiles goes in-depth on the colorful, less-known lives of remarkable Filipinos.

Mitzi Borromeo receives the award for Best TV Newscaster and for Best TV Newscast for Newsroom (9 p.m.)

CNN Philippines Presents: War on Drugs received the Best TV Documentary award, as the 30-minute special captured the country’s current political and social zeitgeist.

Sportsdesk (11 a.m.) hosted by Andrei Felix won Best Sports Program. In the morning run of this daily sports show, Felix gives fans their day’s sports fix as he reports and converses with newsmakers in the world of athletics.

Finally, CNN Philippines’ most marked contribution to the 2016 elections, the Vice Presidential Debates wins the KBP Golden Dove Award for Best Special TV Program. Moderated by CNN Philippines Correspondents Pia Hontiveros and Pinky Webb, the Vice Presidential Debates proved to be an unprecedented feat in the history of Philippine politics as it was able to bring together all vice presidential candidates for the first time in a public debate setting.

Jarin-Bennett recognized the collective determination of the CNN Philippines team to develop quality programs that tell the story of the Filipino. As she accepted the award for Best Special TV Program, she stressed: “[The Vice Presidential Debates] was also a very nice reminder for all of us that the achievements of our organization are the results of the combined effort of every individual working at CNN Philippines.”
