ASIA-PACIFIC – KOREA, OCTOBER 2010 – The TBWA\Media Arts Lab’s FaceTime spots for iPhone 4 premiered in Korea last month. The three commercials share the basic format of the American FaceTime ads, where a series of couples share a significant moment with iPhone 4’s video chat option and two-way cameras.
The US facetime commercials use single or still shots to emphasize more on the dialogue exchanged between a father and son, a girlfriend and boyfriend, an expecting husband and wife, and a father and daughter.
The Korean commercials have no dialogue, choosing more continuous shots and a silent-film approach to bring out the moment, scored by Louis Armstrong’s cover of "When You’re Smiling". The couples in the Korean commercials are a deaf couple, a mother and daughter celebrating a birthday with the Dad, and a girl preparing a traditional Korean spread with the help of her Grandmother.
