BACOLOD, PHILIPPINES — The Bacollywood Summer Workshops is set to return from June 17 to July 13 at the Art District in Mandalagan, Bacolod City, promising an engaging and transformative experience for its students. Through the years, Bacollywood has established itself as a vital part of the local film and theater scene, allowing enrollees to learn from accomplished Negrense filmmakers and talents.

Bacollywood not only offers comprehensive technical courses such as Film Production and Cinematography but also features a distinguished lineup of acting instructors dedicated to honing the skills of aspiring actors. This year’s acting courses are led by Mary Jane Quilisadio, Kurt Soberano, and the dynamic duo of Jack Triño and John Arceo, each bringing a wealth of experience and a passion for nurturing talent.

Mary Jane Quilisadio: Children’s Theater

Mary Jane will guide the Children’s Theater course, designed for participants aged five to 12, held from Mondays to Fridays, 8 am to 12 nn. An AB English graduate from Colegio de San Agustin, Mary Jane has been a dedicated faculty member at various institutions, including the USLS-IS and LICEO Senior High. Her extensive experience teaching English and Theater makes her uniquely equipped to nurture young actors, helping them explore their creativity and develop foundational acting skills in a supportive environment.

Kurt Soberano: Basic Acting

Kurt will lead the Basic Acting course for participants aged 13 and above, scheduled from Mondays to Fridays, 8 am to 12 nn. Kurt’s impressive acting portfolio includes roles in notable films such as Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral and Red. He holds a BA in Communication from the University of St. La Salle and has trained at prestigious institutions such as the American Conservatory Theater and the Moscow Art Theater. Kurt focuses on building students’ confidence and honing their acting techniques through practical, hands-on learning.

Jack Triño and John Arceo: Advanced Acting: Improvisations

The Advanced Acting: Improvisations course, for participants aged 15 and above, will be taught by Jack and John from Mondays to Fridays, 1 pm to 5 pm. Jack, a former student of the Negros Summer Workshops, has over 15 years of teaching experience and advocates for an environment that encourages artistic exploration and collaboration.

With three decades of experience in the performing arts, John has worked with acclaimed directors and continues inspiring young actors. Together, they will guide participants through advanced improvisation techniques and collaborative exercises, fostering a deeper understanding of their unique strengths and talents as actors.
