MANILA – Waking up in the morning is difficult enough for many of us who go to work at 9:00 am but we barely take notice of those who need to get out of their beds and leave their homes way, way earlier than we do. These are the tricycle and jeepney drivers, MRT and LRT ticket and train operators, street sweepers, vendors, among others.
It’s been five years since McDonald’s have decided to honor some of these truly admirable members of the workforce by giving away free breakfast for all the early risers on National Breakfast Day. This year, 450 stores with over 20,000 crew participated in distributing Egg McMuffins, Sausage McMuffins, and the new Burgerdesal sandwiches from 6:00 AM to 7:00 AM.
McDonald’s ambassadors including Marian Rivera, Dingdong Dantes, Alden Richards, Maine Mendoza, Elisse Joson, Mccoy de Leon, Enrique Gil, Bianca Gonzales, Drew Arellano, Ricci Rivero, John Vic de Guzman, JC Santos, Tommy Esguerra, and Donny Pangilinan were deployed in participating McDonald’s branches around Metro Manila to help serve hundreds of people that came to receive their free breakfast.
According to Kenneth Yang, McDonald’s Philippines President and Chief Executive Officer, National Breakfast Day gets bigger every year, with a total of 450,000 breakfast sandwiches given this 2017.
Last year, National Breakfast Day was an ode to our fishermen. This year, it’s dedicated for our second mothers. Leo Burnett created a heartwarming video featuring a 65-year-old teacher from Makati High School who has been waking up at 4:00 in the morning for 30 years, traveling four hours from her home everyday so she could get to her class in time.
For those who were able to score free breakfast sandwiches and maybe even got to see their idols in McDonald’s today, it truly is the ‘best monday ever’!
