GLOBAL – New York Festivals, now in its 54th year of honoring “The World’s Best Work®”, announced its Call for Entries for the 2011 International Television & Film Awards. This year several categories have been added to mirror global programming trends, including Telenovelas. These serialized dramas are popular in Spanish-speaking countries, and have also gained global popularity.
A Special Event category was added to recognize Award Shows, Parades, Telethons, Opening/Closing Ceremonies, News and Political Events. Expanded On-Air Sports categories include: Best Sports Anchor; Best Sports Journalism; and Best Sports Newscast. In addition, an Online Educational Program category was also initiated to include online universities, e-learning and distance learning presentations. A category for Animated Program was added this year along with categories honoring Best Graphic Design, Best Choreography, and Best Animation.
The 2010 International Television & Film Awards received entries from 35 countries. Grand Trophies were awarded to ESPN USA in the History & Society category for the documentary “Muhammad & Larry”, and to The Edge Picture Company, UK in the Arts & Humanities category for the film “1001 Inventions and the Library of Secrets.”
ESPN was named Broadcaster of the Year for the third year in a row and The Edge Picture Company was also honored for the third time with the title of Production Company of the Year.
