MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Showcasing a 20-year collection of art, Elmer I. Nocheseda unveiled his lifelong works at the National Commission for Culture and the Arts Gallery, Intramuros, accessible from February 3 to February 28, 2025.
Entitled “PiDi: Piding-Pidi!” the exhibit is a play on the abbreviation PD which stands for “Parkinon’s Disease” which the artist suffers from. Parkinson’s disease is a movement disorder characterized by tremors, muscle stiffness, movement slowness, and postural alterations that usually worsens through time.
Curated by Joseph S. Santiago, the showcase offers a unique set of undated artworks created at the early stage of Nocheseda’s PD, and when it was in severe state. Guests are invited to guess which artworks are done at each state of the artist’s disease.
Elmer is also known as an author who published several award-winning books throughout his career. With muscle weaknesses and fatigue, he marked the beginning of his battle with PD in 2002. Through his passion, Elmer continues to strive through his battle with Parkinson’s Dissease, using art as his therapy.
PiDi: Piding-Pidi! can be viewed from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Sundays at 633 Genereal Luna Street, Intramuros, Manila.
