GLOBAL – As part of Virgin’s launch of Project, the iPad-only magazine on technology, culture, entertainment, and entrepreneurship, a challenge is on for designers to do more with the iPad features for the cover. Designers need to look for one of four paper mannequins touring New York or San Francisco. The mannequins have coordinates to a usb brief that contains outline and assets for the issue of ‘Project’. (Those not in those cities need not be glum. Mashable has uploaded the assets.)
Project, as it aims to set the standard on the iPad, offers an integrated blog and forum, but in-depth features are missing in the content, and there is a notable lack of interaction for something that boasts to be relevant and cutting edge. "It’s a very decent start, but Project will have to push much further in terms of functionality and yes, content, to succeed against (or, rather, with) the established players in the space." concludes Lauren Indvik.
Is the overhauling of reading habits on the way? We have yet to see. As Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. works out The Daily, an iPad-only newspaper, the Murdoch-Branson rivalry of billionaires could prove a boon to online publishing, taking the technology and content to new heights. In the meantime, create your video entry and submit by December 15th.
