PHILIPPINES, NOVEMBER 2010 – Outlooke Pointe Foundation, in partnership with the Province of Benguet, is proud to announce the six participating artists for the upcoming Benguet Artist Summit: Mica Cabildo, Vermont Coronel, Lea Lim, Alma Quinto, Lirio Salvador, and Dang Sering.
A selection committee composed of National Artist Benedicto Cabrera, artist-curator Ringo Bunoan, and Baguio-based contemporary artist Kawayan de Guia selected these six artists, who represented the best proposals received by the Outlooke Pointe Foundation. The artists were chosen based on their proposal’s concept and execution, its relation to the location of Benguet, and its relevance to the Foundation’s vision of nation building through the arts.
The Benguet Artist Summit is a ten day artist residency program to be held in Benguet province from November 19-28, 2010. Each chosen artist will be provided travel, food, lodging, studio space and a basic stipend for materials for the duration of the program.
The first day of the residency will be spent as guests of Congresman Cosalan at Benguet’s Grand Canao event. The next two days of the residency will be devoted to lectures, workshops and tours of art spaces such as the Bencab Museum, VOCAS Gallery, Arko ni Apo Gallery and Tam-awan Village. The rest of the time will be spent in the studio creating both individual and collaborative works. At the end of the ten days, an exhibit will be held in Benguet to showcase the works made by the artists during the residency.
