THE PHILIPPINES, OCTOBER 5, 2011: Summit Media, the Philippines’ largest magazine publisher, reaches out to the smart urban Filipino man with the formal launch tonight of Esquire Philippines, the 22nd international edition of the men’s magazine. Esquire Philippines is Summit’s sixth local adaptation from the Hearst Magazines library, after Cosmopolitan, Good Housekeeping, Town & Country and the now-defunct Marie Claire and Seventeen.
Esquire is known worldwide for its photography and design, as well as its intelligent articles. Its Philippine edition targets the stylish and savvy man in his late 20s to early 40s. The maiden issue is topbilled by world boxing champion and congressman Manny Pacquiao, whose cover story is authored by five respected writers. Also featured in the issue is a photo section with actress Lovi Poe, the wisdom of Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile and Lourd de Veyra comtemplating on the music of Air Supply.
The Philippine Star columnist Erwin Romulo is the magazine’s editor-in-chief. “My goal is to carry on the legacy that the brand has established since 1933. It’ll be the embodiment of our motto: ‘Man at his best,’” says Romulo. Supporting Romulo are well-known writers Luis Katigbak, associate editor, and Sarge Lacuesta, editor-at-large. Raymond Gutierrez is style director; Liz Uy is style editor-at-large.
The magazine is available from newsstands for P195 and will be released 11 times a year. It maintains an online portal at www.esquiremagazine.ph, which features well-known personalities as bloggers, and will also available in digital format on Zinio.
Esquire Philippines should prove interesting competition to Rogue and. less directly, ABS-CBN Publishing’s Vault, UNO and Summit’s own FHM, the leading men’s magazine.
