adobo Magazine and Lakihan Mo Logo get mad about awards

MANILA, JULY 24, 2013 – The Philippine advertising industry was rocked at Live Vibe Centrale at A. Venue last night as adobo Magazine and Lakihan Mo Logo present Mad About Awards: A Salute to Creative Rockstars shone the spotlight on Philippine creativity.

Celebrating Philippine agencies’ recent victories at the 60th Cannes International Festival of Creativity and the announcement of the 2012 adobo Creative Rankings top placers, the event was a tribute to world-class Philippine advertising talent that saw the industry let its hair down and bang its collective head to the likes of Itchyworms, Moonstar88, Gracenote, Billy Gaga, Halik ni Gringo and Shoulder State, to Quepias, Pasok mga Bwitre, Syke, D-Maps and the appropriately-named Advertising Band of the Philippines.

"We join the industry in applauding the creative rock stars who continue to excel in their craft, showing that the Philippines is on its way to becoming a creative powerhouse in the region, if not the world,” said adobo Magazine’s vice president and chief operating officer Janelle Squires in her welcoming remarks.  Squires’ sentiments were shared by adobo editor-in-chief Angel Guerrero, who said, via video message, that the Philippines’ stellar performance at this year’s Cannes Lions were a definite sign that the country "had arrived."

Excitement reached a fever pitch when it came time to announce the winners of the 2012 adobo Creative Rankings, the results of which were derived from a point system based on the number of awards a creative or agency had won the year before.

BBDO Guerrero was named the top Agency of the Year, bolstered by the wins garnered by their work on campaigns such as ‘Bottle Light‘ for Pepsi Philippines, ‘Persistent Headaches’ for Saridon (Bayer) and social media sensation ‘It’s More Fun in the Philippines’ for the Department of Tourism. Agency chief David Guerrero bagged the top executive creative director position while Tim Villela, Rachel Teotico, Manny Vailoces and Roshan Nandwani took the top art director, copywriter spots, digital imaging and digital strategist, respectively.

Ace Saatchi & Saatchi placed second in the agency category while the ever-dapper Greg Martin took home the top creative director trophy. Veteran Gigi Garcia emerged as top account manager, thanks to their combined wins for the Tiger Biscuit Energy Playground and PLDT MyDSL campaigns.  Client Kraft Philippines unsurprisingly bagged the honor of 2012’s top advertiser.

McCann WorldGroup Philippines’ Tonico Maningat was named as top digital manager.

Continuing their winning streak of previous Rankings, Hit Productions and Revolver Studios retained their posts as the country’s top Sound Production and Production Houses, while Post Manila reigned supreme as Post Production House of the year.

*Complete results on the rankings are published in the July/August issue of adobo magazine, available at the stands now.

When the dust from the Rankings had settled, advertising’s top creatives and suits proceeded to party the night away in true rock star fashion.

adobo Magazine and Lakihan Mo Logo present Mad About Awards: A Salute to Creative Rockstars would not have been possible without the support of its sponsors: PLDT MyDSL, Greenwich Pizza, WYD Productions, Executive Decisions, Dacar Corporation and Live Vibe Centrale.
