The road to success is indeed paved with heartaches. Rod Marmol, copywriter at Publicis JimenezBasic the man behind Utot Catalog turned things around by finding opportunities in his miseries. A series of unfortunate life events led him to create this Facebook page full of hugot in 2012 even before hugot was a digital native term.

The page started as a simple avenue for Rod’s rants with his friends as his only audience. But through the years, his posts gained popularity that he could only hope for. In 2013, Utot Catalog’s fans grew to 2,000 organically and from there, went to over 30,000 after a year. And right now, with a little help from Facebook’s boost feature, the already has over 200,000 followers who actively like, share and comment on the posts.

Utot Catalog has opened doors for Rod that he never even thought of going into. He’s been invited to talks, seminars and spoken word performances. He was also tapped by Chicken Pork Adobo, ABS-CBN’s multi-channel network that supports digital content creators by providing advertising and production support. For his latest project, Rod will be releasing a book of poetry and other works in May this year under Summit Media.
